Agustinas Misioneras 125 years

The Agustinas Misioneras (Augustinian Missionary Sisters) are celebrating their 125th anniversary with a year-long series of celebrations and activities.

Because the Agustinas Misioneras minister in seventeen nations, a number of these special events have each been planned to be conducted simultaneously in as many nations as possible. The following is an abbreviated list of these type of events

6 May 2015: Opening ceremonies for the Anniversary.

6 – 31 May 2015: Vocational month, Restless women for educational and developmental projects.

18 October 2105: Retreat begins, History and Charism of the Congregation.

14 November 2015: Lay training route.

6 May 2016: Closing ceremonies of the Anniversary Year

As well there are a number of international gatherings during the 125th anniversary year. For example:

11 – 15 May 2015: Meeting of Provincial Superiors in Madrid to continue the Restructuring Project

2 – 15 November 2015: Meeting of the AM Commission of Spirituality.

1 – 31 May 2016: International course for Agustinas Misioneras in Formation and Youth ministries.

The objective of these varied activities is remembrance and prophecy; it is to return to the charismatic roots of the Congregation and to receive the project of life of being Augustinian missionaries. This is being pursued through three priorities: (1) To revitalize the life of individual Sisters and of Agustinas Misioneras communities, (2) To recreate our life according to Interiority, Community and Mission, and (3) To give impetus to the evangelical mission of the Church and of the Agustinas Misioneras Congregation.

Today Agustinas Misioneras work in seventeen nations. Internationally there are approximately 440 Sisters, novices and postulants. The AM presence in the Asia-Pacific includes China (1925-1950, and again from 1998), India (since 1985), Taiwan (2001) and the Philippines (since 2010).

In the Asia-Pacific, the Agustinas Misioneras have a total of seventy-five Sisters. Of the sixty-one of them in India, fifty-nine are locally born and one is Spaniard and one Portuguese. Of the four in Taiwan, two are Indians, one is African, and one a Peruvian.

The specific mission of the AM Congregation is to evangelize through education and human development programs is fulfilled today in the schools of the Congregation and in other schools, in working with children in need, in day-care centers, in residences for youth, in pastoral activities, in human development programs for women, and in health-care and social work.

As to Charism, the following of Christ leads the Agustinas Misioneras to carry out our mission in complete availability to the calling of the Spirit. We do this through education and human development programs paying attention to areas of poverty and great need and mission territories in foreign lands. The Sisters live this out in a community of faith,  love and prayer, in attitude of searching, openness, and evangelical simplicity that takes up and shares in the task entrusted to each sister.
