APAC Youth Festivals 2007

A three-day APAC youth festival  - Luzon Edition - took place at Boy Scouts National Reservation camp, Mount Makiling, Los Baños, Laguna, Philippines on 9th – 11th November 2007. It drew 550 high school students from over a dozen apostolates of the Augustinian Sisters of Our Lady of Consolation, the Little Sisters of the Assumption, the Augustinian Vicariate of the Orient, and the Augustinian Province of Cebu. Fr. Joel Santiago, OSA and Bro. Alvin Barcelona were the Guest Speakers who talked about Friendship and Spirituality respectively. An Assistant General of the Order of St Augustine, Fr Rommel Par OSA (Cebu Province) was the main celebrant of the Mass that ended the festival.

 Another APAC Youth Jamboree occurred two weeks later for Visayas-Mindanao Edition. It was held at the CICM Retreat House, Talisay City, Negros Occidental, Philippines. Fr Andrew P. Batayola OSA and Fr Willy A. Capellan OSA were the guest speakers; they talked about Augustinian Spirituality and friendship by Augustine respectively. Two hundred fifty youth/students, teachers and religious delegates coming from the different Augustinian schools, parishes and institutions of the Augustinian Sisters of Our Lady of Consolation and Sto. Niño de Cebu Province. Fr Rodolfo Bugna OSA of the CSA-Bacolod, the Host community, was the main celebrant and Homilist during the Opening Mass while Fr Jerome Mesina OSA the Prior Provincial, was the main celebrant and homilist during the Closing Mass.

These events were part of the activities sponsored by the APAC Youth Commission, of which Fr Tony Lumukso OSA of the Vicariate of the Orient is Chairman and Fr Raul Cabugao OSA is Vice –Chairman. The theme of the APAC Youth Festival 2007 was “Together in Faith Augustinian Youth Serves”.

The festivals aimed to gather the Augustinian youth in order to further inculcate the Augustinian Spirit of friendship, solidarity, as well as awakened, renewed and deepened their roles as Augustinian evangelizers.
